| In providing lubrication to a gear
set, certain requirements must be met. The first criteria is whether or
not it requires an extreme pressure lubricant. If the response is no, then
PURE
MINERAL TRANSMISSION FLUID is most likely the answer. PURE
MINERAL TRANSMISSION FLUID is a high quality transmission lubricant
formulated to provide a lubricant cushion between the gear teeth. It resists
oxidation, thickening in use, and does not foam excessively. It also meets
American Petroleum Institute (API) GL-1 requirements. PURE
MINERAL TRANSMISSION FLUID is authorized by the US Department of
Agriculture as an H2 lubricant which has no contact with food. |

Cushions
Gears and Lubricates Bearings
A satisfactory transmission lubricant
serves several purposes. First, it must cushion the gear teeth in the transmission.
Secondly, it must provide a protective lubricating film to bearings, thus
preventing metal-to-metal contact.
Gears operating without any lubricant
have a coefficient of friction of about 1.0. By adding PURE
MINERAL TRANSMISSION FLUID, the friction can be reduced to about
0.05 to 0.15. This friction reduction is obtained by the film strength
of the lubricant, which separates the gear teeth during boundary lubrication
and ensures proper cushioning of the gears.

Reduces
Heat Build-Up
PURE MINERAL TRANSMISSION
FLUID carries away the heat generated in a hard-working transmission.
The fluidity of PURE MINERAL TRANSMISSION FLUID transfers
frictional heat from the gears of the transmission to the outside of the
gear case. Otherwise prohibitive temperatures would result. To accomplish
this, the main gear must continually operate in liquid lubricant; thus,
the liquid level of lubricant must stay high enough to serve all gears
in the transmission.

Foam and Corrosion
In order to provide a good oil film
in gear teeth, foam must be kept at a minimum. Foam is mostly air; therefore,
if foam is excessive, the oil film is lost, resulting in metal-to-metal
contact and wear. PURE MINERAL TRANSMISSION FLUID
is
foam-inhibited to keep foam at a minimum. Since the lubricant provides
a protective film on the exposed parts, contact with moisture is resisted,
thus corrosion is virtually eliminated.

Oxidation
To obtain maximum performance, a gear
oil must be stable from oxidation. PURE MINERAL TRANSMISSION
FLUID is made from high viscosity index base stocks. This means
the low-quality components, those more easily oxidized, are eliminated,
yielding oxidation resistant lubricants.
The base oils have been through several
refining steps to remove impurities. Both solvent extraction processes
and hydro-treating are used to ensure the base stock will not contribute
to the formation of sludge, varnish, or other undesirable by-products.
In addition, only paraffin base stocks are used by Texas Refinery Corp.
Because of complete saturation of its molecular structure, paraffin base
stocks are less susceptible to attack from oxygen and various acids when
compared to naphthenic base stocks.

Offers
a Wide Operating Temperature Range
The PURE MINERAL
TRANSMISSION FLUID does not need any viscosity index improvers added.
It holds its viscosity even after prolonged use because there are no viscosity
improvers to sheer down. As the product is made from highly refined base
stocks, it provides excellent viscosity and temperature characteristics
to assure a wide operating temperature range.

Reduces
Noise, Vibration, and Shock
PURE MINERAL TRANSMISSION
FLUIDS, particularly those of high viscosity, act as a cushion and
reduce noise, shock, and vibration of meshing gears. Of course, a good
gear lubricant is not a correction for poor mechanical conditions.
For maximum service of the gear lubricant,
it is suggested that samples from the equipment be submitted frequently
for laboratory analysis. |
