| Several thousand technical papers from
all over the world have been written on the subject of MoS2,
molybdenum disulfide, or "moly" as a lubricant. These papers bear witness
to its outstanding ability to combat friction and wear, and in some cases
to reduce oxidation of lubricants. This unique material is chosen more
and more as a valuable additive for lubricants. |
MOLY PRO-SPEC®Has
High Level Of Moly
Under boundary lubricating conditions,
the mating surfaces are not held apart and metal-to-metal contact occurs.
The result is a scuffed or galled surface. Such a situation can be avoided
by using a lubricant with added molybdenum disulfide . . . Texas Refinery
Corp. MOLY PRO-SPEC® MOTOR OIL.
Molybdenum disulfide - - called moly
- - works because its chemical structure has platelets which slide past
each other easily. To compare this to a lubricating oil that has a coefficient
of friction in the range of 0.15 to 0.2, Moly has a coefficient of friction
in the range of 0.03 to 0.06. Texas Refinery's MOLY
PRO-SPEC® MOTOR OIL contains a high concentration
of moly, which accounts for its low coefficient of friction, providing
the good boundary lubrication needed to produce the beneficial points to
be discussed.
MOLY PRO-SPEC®Increases
Fuel Economy
Several tests were conducted on fuel
consumption including test stand engines, leased fleets, and buses. The
overall average fuel economy improved 4.4% with a range of 2.3 to 6.4 percent
being noted. For the buses and leased fleets, a fuel economy improvement
of up to 6.6 percent was obtained. In track test work, fuel economy improvements
up to 7.9 percent were obtained.
MOLY PRO-SPEC®Reduces
Wear, Friction & Heat
Texas Refinery Corp. has years and years
of field-proven experience with MOLY PRO-SPEC®
MOTOR OIL. Most companies, if they have a molybdenum disulfide motor
oil, have only been selling it the last few years. Just remember, molybdenum
disulfide looks a little like graphite and yet it is twice as slippery
as graphite. MoS2 can carry loads up to 500,000 psi with a thin
film of moly plated out on the metal surfaces. Once moly adheres to the
metal, the only way to remove it is by grinding or wearing it off over
a period of time. You will also be interested to know the maximum buildup
of molybdenum disulfide is .0002 of an inch - - - not enough to affect
bearing clearances - - - just enough to help prevent metal to metal contact.
Since Texas Refinery Corp.'s MOLY PRO-SPEC®is
replenishing the moly film, wear, friction and heat are continually reduced.
MOLY PRO-SPEC®Reduces
Oil Consumption
Oil consumption can be a costly problem
with engines. MOLY PRO-SPEC® MOTOR
OIL fights oil consumption with superior anti-wear additives. As
piston rings in new engines go through the seating process, oil consumption
decreases. Once the rings are sealed, the MOLY PRO-SPEC®
MOTOR OIL minimizes wear and extends the life of the engine. The
addition of MOLY PRO-SPEC® MOTOR OIL
to
older engine crankcases will reduce the wear rate too, resulting in longer
engine life. MOLY PRO-SPEC® MOTOR
OIL does not thin out at high temperatures as do many commercial
brand oils.
MOLY PRO-SPEC®A
High TBN Oil
MOLY PRO-SPEC®
MOTOR OIL has a high Total Base Number of 15. This high TBN level
indicates how well MOLY PRO-SPEC®
MOTOR OIL fights acids and their corrosive effects. Many commercial
lubricants on the market have a TBN level from only 6 to 10.
There are many different ways to boost
the TBN number of an oil. Texas Refinery Corp.'s MOLY
PRO-SPEC® MOTOR OILS receive most of their alkalinity
from the detergent value of the oil. Of course, this is the most expensive
way to go and it is certainly the most effective as well. High detergency
TBN additives are more effective at controlling the overall effects of
increased spot loading of the oil. Some of the newer fuel formulas with
greatly decreased sulfur percentages have created problems, particularly
in the roller cams. The high detergency of Texas Refinery Corp.'s MOLY
PRO-SPEC® MOTOR OIL helps keep this area clean. The
high Total Base Number and high detergency's end results are longer life
and extended drain intervals with MOLY PRO-SPEC®
MOTOR OIL.
MOLY PRO-SPEC®Uniform
Moly
Texas Refinery Corp. uses extremely
small particles of molybdenum disulfide for fluid products like MOLY
PRO-SPEC® MOTOR OIL. This is a much smaller particle
than the one used in grease. The moly is dispersed in the fluid with special
suspension agents. Since the particles are less than .33 microns, they
are small enough not to precipitate out of suspension and they flow freely
through filter materials.
Moly is a blackish gray color and when
added to the oil to make MOLY PRO-SPEC®
MOTOR OIL, the color of the finished oil is blackish gray. |
